Safety Permit
Anyone who wishes to conduct railway operations of any kind, is required by 22 of the NRSR Act No.16 of 2002, as amended; to apply for, attain and maintain a safety permit from the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) prior to the commencement of any operations. The safety permit is valid for a set period; after which a new application for safety permit must be made.
Once a safety permit is issued by the RSR, it comes with general conditions and/or special conditions (if applicable). It is the responsibility of safety permit holder to abide by and comply these conditions. Failure to do so may lead to contravention notices and penalties being issued; further than that, the Safety Permit may be revoked by the RSR.
As part of the conditions of the safety permit, all findings (e.g. non-compliances) issued by the RSR against any safety permit number, must be addressed to the satisfaction of the RSR and compliance be achieved within the specified deadline.
All Safety Permits must be renewed accordingly in line with their expiry date and the application for the renewal must be submitted 90 days prior to the expiry date.
